Maglev Wind Turbines Extremely Efficient
By Nick November 27, 2007

A new power generating technology has been developed, the Maglev Win Turbine, 1000 times more efficient than conventional windmills and it’s already planned to be implemented in China and the US. Fortunately, it has low operating costs and is environmental-friendly, while it produces cheap energy. In comparison with conventional turbines, Maglev’s operational costs are reduced to 50%, has an increased capacity by 20%, a lifetime of 500 years, can use winds from 1.5 m/s to 40 m/s and can produce one gigawatt of power, while the conventional ones can only produce 5 megawatts.
Hopefully the polluting power generators will be replaced by the new Maglev Turbine, so we can make one more step to a clean environment.

Love to see this in action, but I’ll believe it when I see it in action, not just on the drawing board.
Anyone with an inkling of understanding of physics can tell that this machine is NOT 1000 times more efficient than other windmills.
How do I know ?
Efficiency is the ratio of input to output. It is usually expressed as a percentage. The maximum possible is 100%, where all the input is being converted to output.
This device is less than 100% efficient - if you don’t know why you can either trust me or sign up for a basic physics or engineering course.
A turbine that was 1000 times less efficient would therefore be .1% efficient and would consume the power from a 747 engine to power about 5 normal houses.
It pays to have some understanding of what you’re talking about before you open your mouth.
These things may well have less than .1% of the friction of conventional bearings - though I doubt that the reduction in losses would be at that level
Why would you need 64,000 acres for 1,000 windmills? Do you really need 64 acres per windmill? Seems a bit high to me.
Phil Rizzutto from the money store says: “Its dream time !!” Hmmn wonder if I can make a small one for my house if it is that much more efficient?
Tom Midgley was correct about his physics but if you go to the source article it doesn’t say 1000X efficiency it says one is equivalent to 1000 turbines mostly from size differences I take it

This is a great idea. It just needs the funding and backers behind it. I am sure it could work, as the bigger the size with more efficiency, the more power is produced. It’s an excellent concept and a few thousand could power the world along with hydroelectricity and other forms. It could replace Nuclear.
There is still the problem of periodic generation. A grid operator cannot predict the wind, even if it is very consistent. Therefore a large amount of non-wind/solar needs to be online and ready to replace the wind/solar generation when the wind or sunshine weakens (known as spinning reserve). Actually in Europe, due to there enormous amount of wind generation additional coal plants had to be built to increase there spinning reserve to support the wind down times. Now is that Green Energy. One possible solution would be to directly tie the wind generation to a hydro electric reservoir so that the wind energy can be stored and harnessed at any time the grid requires it. Now if the wind/solar energy is utilized at a micro scale either for a home or small village this storage system can be much smaller and may be more practical. However, the only practical storage system at this time is battery which have many toxic and harmful aspects themselves especially when you multiply the number of homes that may use this wind/solar generation. Nuclear definitely needs to stay in the picture especially if we wish to maintain a grid type system we have now which is necessary in any industrialized society. Although we definitely need to put more research efforts into improving our efficiency of nuclear. It is not acceptable to put in an energy source and remove it with close to 98% of it orginal energy. A direct nuclear to electricity generator would be beautiful but no designs even thought of yet. Thinking green is wonderful but please “To all those who are much more intelligent than myself we need to create a new energy source or drastically improve the ones we utilize now! If we don’t within the next 25years, it may be our demise as a modern society. Definitely more funds, intellectuals and will need to be removed from these war machines and put to societal necessities.”
